How Often Should You Wash, Wax and Detail Your Car?

car-wax
As a car owner you should be aware that following a proper car care regimen will help you maintain your vehicle in a good condition for many years. Let´s start with the most basic tip which is washing. How often should you wash your car?

You have probably already asked yourself this question. The answer totally depends on how often you use it and the weather. Sometimes it’s obvious when your vehicle needs a wash, for example, such as after a long day of driving, especially in a hot or nasty weather. Following the general rule of thumb, it is recommended to wash your car every two weeks. Obviously, there are special circumstances that might increase or decrease that frequency as previously mentioned.

Your car’s exterior is exposed to the sun rays, rain, snow, salt, bird droppings and there might be more enemies. Waxing will help you keep it clean and maintain a good look. How often should you wax your car? Generally speaking, it’s recommended to wax a car four times per year which is once in every three months.

James Carter, owner of highly rated Paradise Mobile Detail in Las Vegas, agrees that a vehicle should be waxed every three months, or a minimum of twice a year.
“We recommend once in the spring just before summer and in the fall just before winter,” he says, because wax helps protect cars from harmful UV rays in warm weather and protects them from harsh elements in cold weather.

How often should you detail your car?
Most experts recommend a new detail every four to six months, which is 2-3 times a year. However, you might want to perform this procedure more frequently, depending on your vehicle type and your needs.

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Summer

summer-car-care
Is your car ready for summer? Hot weather might be challenging for your vehicle´s performance and you need to take a diligent care of its coolant and air conditioning systems, tires as well as check all the essential fluids and more.

Where do we start when it comes to your car´s summer maintenance?

Coolant system. Check your vehicle´s coolant system, inspect the hoses and coolant reservoir and make sure that there are no leaks or any other issues.

Wipers. Are your wipers worn? If so it´s time to change them. Summer does not mean that rainy weather is over and if your wipers are worn, they might create streaks on the windshields. What can be more important than vision when driving? So keep your windshields maximum clean.

Engine belts should be part of your checklist. Planning long-distance summer trips? Have you checked your engine belts? Are they in a good condition? When engine belts become loose or deteriorate it´s time to replace them with the new ones.

Check all the fluids that need to be checked. Contact a trustworthy mechanic to check your vehicle´s oil, brake, power-steering and windshield-washer fluids. It´s not as easy task as it sounds and it´s better to find the right auto body shop with qualified staff. At Pristine Automotive we can take care of this and guarantee you a 100 per cent of satisfaction. Find all the information about Pristine´ auto services here.

Air-conditioning system. Especially in summer, you can´t skip checking your air conditioning system. Make sure it works well.

Tires. As always, don´t neglect checking tires. Especially their pressure needs to be checked regularly in hot summer weather. Also, your tires should be in good condition without any cracks or else.

Wash your car. You might need to wash your car once or twice a month, however this totally depends on a location, weather, the distance you drive and more. Just make sure you wash it whenever your vehicle needs it. Also, park in a shadow to protect your car from direct sunrays as they damage carpaint.

Hope this post was helpful and take a good care of your vehicle!

Get Your Car Spring Ready

spring-car-careIs your vehicle ready for spring arrival? As a car owner, you should be aware how important it is to prepare you car for every season. In spring the weather gets warmer, however it’s common to have rainy days.  What is the car care checklist for spring?

Check them below and some of them need to be performed not only in spring but regularly.

Replace windshield wiper blades. Even if you have not used windshield wipers much in winter, it’s recommended to get them replaced before rainy showers start. Also check that all your interior and exterior lighting works well to make sure you see everything clearly when driving.

Replace plugs and batteries. As the weather gets warmer, plugs and batteries can be depleted faster. Replace the old ones with the new ones before you hit the road.

Check the brake system: Is your battery connection clean, tight and corrosion-free? Don’t forget to have it checked.

Don’t ignore washing and waxing your car. When it comes to your car’s exterior, make sure you wax it properly. Spring is an excellent time to do it as waxing not only protects the finish but also makes subsequent washing easier. Obviously, wash it as well to keep your vehicle clean.

Perform the following checklist. Check the tire pressure, filters and fluids, including power steering and brake, transmission and engine oil, as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.

We’d recommend you having your car inspected by a professional autobody shop to make sure everything is done properly.

How to Clean the Interior of Your Car

auto-interior-cleaningWhen it comes to vehicle’s care, both interior and exterior detailing are important.
In this post, you’ll learn the main tips on how to clean your car’s interior.

Cleaning interior totally differs from its exterior, it’s harder and requires more time and efforts. If you are going to take care of the interior cleaning yourself, consider that you might need much time and be sure to equip yourself with a car vacuum cleaner with brush and crevice attachments, microfiber or paper towels, cotton swabs, plastic and vinyl cleaner, cloth and leather cleaner and more.

Brush off the dust and vacuum. Are you ready for a big work? It’s important to vacuum up the dust as you brush it off, so it doesn’t immediately settle somewhere else in the car.  You will need to vacuum your vehicle’s carpet, the seats, dash and the package shelf. Consider cleaning your car’s knobs and buttons.

Clean cloth seats and AC vents. Use cloth cleaner to clean cloth seats and a foam brush or paint brush to dust between the AC vents.

Get rid of animal hair. Do you have animals? Driving with your pet must be a fun experience. Though you should consider interior detailing on a regular basis. If you have animals, you can get rid of animal hair using a spray bottle of water and a squeegee.

Clean floor mats. What to do with dirty floor mats? Spray them with stain remover, then put them in the washing machine. You will enjoy the clean and fresh look of your floor mats when you’re inside your vehicle.

Clean seat cushions. Don’t reject to clean your seat cushions. All you need is a fine-bristled brush to get dirt and crumbs out from the seams of your seat cushions.

Shampoo the seats.  How do you shampooo your vehicle’s seats? Diluted all-purpose cleaner, a sponge or scrub brush, and washcloths will serve your purpose.

If you prefer to give this task to auto body shop professionals , at Pristine Automotive we are offering you full car detail. We perform exterior and interior detailing as well as engine cleaning.

In my next post I´ll be speaking about car’s exterior detailing. Subscribe to our blog and be the first to get the news.

7 Tips to Avoid Collisions

collisionHow to avoid collisions while you are driving? The answer to this question needs to know  every car owner.

To avoid collisions, it’s important to drive reasonably by following the below tips.

Know where you go. In order to avoid unexpected stops, turns, you need to know which direction you’re taking, before you start driving. Instead of checking the direction when you’re already on the road, do it before. This will make you concentrate on road safety rather than anything else.

Avoid talking to people in your car when driving. While talking to other people in the car might be entertaining, especially if you have to drive long hours, it can be quite dangerous as well. Avoid any type of distractions.

Another enemy for a distraction is a cell phone. Make sure you are maximum  concentrated on the road when driving so do not talk on the cell phone while driving.

Keep a safe driving distance. Make sure you’re not getting to close to a vehicle in front of you.

The Must Know Car Care Tips

Properly maintaining your vehicle is the most important factor to ensure that it lasts long. In this post, I am going to share a few must know car care tips that every car owner should follow to keep his vehicle working properly.

What should you do to keep your car on the road?

car-care-tips

Check and change the oil. Regular oil and filter changes will help your engine last more, while neglecting oil-level checks or fresh-oil changes will destroy it fast. For a more efficient use of the air and fuel combination, go for the aftermarket air filters as they allow more airflow into the engine, also blocking contaminants and impurities. The last ones degrade engine´s performance over time. High-quality aftermarket air filters are made of fabric, are washable and reusable.

Keep your vehicle clean. Keep your car clean not only outside but inside as well. Everything the vehicle ran over can also get stuck to the underside. Don’t neglect hosing off road grime.

Don’t fail to wax. What can better keep your car paint look good and protected than a coat of quality wax? Apply wax every six months. Additionally, inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease according to service intervals.

Park your vechicle in the shade. By parking your car in the shade, you protect the interior plastic. Also, use a window deflector screen, and apply a UV protectant to prevent the plastic and vinyl from drying out.

Change coolant once a year and flush the cooling system. A distilled water, 50/50 mix of coolant will keep the cooling system in a good shape and prevent corrosion and deposits from getting and building up inside it.

Check the HVAC – heating, ventilating and air conditioning system – as proper heating and cooling performance is critical both for interior comfort and for safety reasons.

Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, damage and broken supports or hangers if you hear an unusual noise. Exhaust leaks must be corrected without delay as they might be dangerous.

Hope you find the above tips helpful.

Get Your Car Ready for Summer

summer-car-care-tipsIs your car ready for summer?
Although people tend to think about the challenges winter puts on our vehicles, summer’s heat, dust, and stop-and-go traffic, affects cars as well. Breakdowns might occur anytime; leaving you stranded at the side of the road and needing to fork out on costly repairs.

The arrival of summer marks an ideal time to make sure your car is in good working condition. The following summer car maintenance tips will help you keep your car healthy and moving in the heat.

Air ConditioningIf you are stuck in a holiday traffic jam while it’s being quite hot outside, make sure to activate air conditioning. On the other hand remember, try not to use air conditioning all the time as it will increase fuel consumption.

Air filters. Air filters keep dirt from entering a vehicle and especially in summer they might get clogged up. Bear in mind to replace the filter every year.

Batteries. To avoid breakdowns, make sure your batteries are working properly. If the car struggles to start, batteries might be a reason for it.

Coolant. It is important to have the coolant level between the maximum and the minimum to prevent overheating in the summer. Ideally, you should do the checking once a week when the engine is cold. Don´t fail to do it.

Cooling fan. Cooling fan is part of the cooling system and if the cooling system is not maintained properly, it must work harder to prevent the engine from overheating. Consequently, your vehicle will not operate efficiently as internal components could be damaged.

If the fan blades are damaged, for example if they have cracks or nicks, that might cause the fan to become out of balance and vibrate. The last one can destroy water pump bearings and other related components, eventually leading to a total system failure.

Oil levels. Oil levels should be between the maximum and minimum on your dipstick to avoid causing damages. Check the level at least once a week.

Tires. Another important thing to do is to monitor tire pressures to avoid punctures which are the most common cause of a summer breakdown.

Windscreens. Keep your windscreens clean as the glare from the sun will make them even worse. You don’t need poor visibility when you’re driving.

Hope you find the above-mentioned tips helpful and if you need help with the checking, Pristine Automotive is here to help you.

Our mission at Pristine Automotive is to provide excellent customer service and therefore become your family’s “One stop auto service and auto body repair in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.”

Top Common Reasons Why Cars Breakdown

There’s nothing worse than a car that breaks down in the middle of the road. It may seem that car breakdown happens at the worst possible times. If this happens, you have two options – bring your car to the nearest service shop or have it towed. Knowing the top three reasons for car break down will allow you to avoid such issue.

Overheating

Overheating is probably the most common reason for car breakdown. This happens when the cooling system of the vehicle gets faulty, especially during the hotter months. To avoid this problem from happening, always check the fluid levels of your cooling system regularly. Also, you can turn on the heaters to divert the heat away from the engine of your car.

Dead Battery

Unfortunately for car owners, the battery does not give any warning before it becomes dead. Flat/dead batteries might happen as a result of faulty alternator or accidentally leaving the lights of the car switched on at night. If your vehicle takes a longer period of time to start, the battery might run flat anytime soon. To avoid this from happening, make sure that you test the battery with a simple and cheap tester that you can buy at local stores.

Taking your car to a regular service for proper car maintenance in Silver Lake is the best means to ensure that your vehicle does not break down.  Although your car breaks down, do not forget the safety tips that must be done in order to prevent accidents.

How Car Transmission Works and How to Know There is a Problem

How Transmission Works - Gear Stick
How Transmission Works

How Car Transmission Works and How to know if There Is a Problem with It?
The car transmission is a highly complex mechanical system responsible for controlling the application of power to the drive-shaft from the engine. Unlike other car parts, the transmission experiences more wear and tear as a result of increased heath and friction generated by interacting and moving car components.
The transmission is a vital part of a car’s driving system. If the transmission fails, the car cannot be driven until it’s fixed. Both the automatic and manual transmissions have many similar problem signs. Being aware of these warning signs allows you to avoid or prevent costly repairs or even loss of lives. Here are some warning signs that your car’s transmission has a problem.
Rough Shifting – Hard or abrupt shifting between gears is a clear sign that your transmission has a problem.
Fluids and Leaks – Dirty fluid from your transmission poses problem with the mechanism. Also, leaks, drops of fluid, or small stains under your car may not pose a problem, but puddles and wet spots are signs that the transmission of your car has a problem.
Slippage – Your transmission may have a problem when your car engine speeds up, but the car does not respond to it accordingly.
Missed Gear Shifts – Missing or delay in response with gear shifting is a clear sign of transmission problem.
Most of the time, pinpointing the problem with your car’s transmission is not easy. Therefore, when you notice any of these signs, take your vehicle to the nearest auto repair shop for inspection and possible repair or replacement of transmission.
